Pitch Free XV: "Well, that's great, I reject it"
Can you imagine if Lala Kent was fielding your pitches?!
I’d pay actual money to see what kind of email etiquette Lala Kent demonstrates on a daily basis. From “send it to Darrell” to her “Bambi-eyed pitch” days, one can only imagine what that inbox must look like. That girl has never “circled back” or “gently followed up” in her life and you know, I’m not here for it on like, a realistic or professional level, but on a spiritual level, Lala is a standup pitch and I see you, boo.
The next time someone send me a shitty pitch, I’m going to call up my inner Lala and be like, “Well, that’s great, I reject it.” *Sassy shrug*
I won’t actually, but you know… I’ll be thinking it 🤷🏻♀️
In other actually important, non-reality-TV-related news, I’m really excited to announce that I have taken on a new role as Commerce Writer in the Home space at DotDashMeredith where I’m covering news and deals for Real Simple, Southern Living, and Better Homes and Gardens.
I’ve been a little nervous to announce that and open up the floodgates because I can only imagine what my inbox is going to look like (and it already looks like hell, TBH), but I’ve been pitching two posts per day, so I’ll take any inspiration I can get.
Free tip of the week
Do: Tell me the stats! What’s the Amazon rating? How many reviews does it have? The proof is in the pudding and the more stats you give me to work with, the more likely you’ll grab my attention.
I also want to know if you personally swear by it. Do you use it, too? Do you have experience with it other than repping the company? I wanna know! Show me why I should pitch it; show me why it’s worth my attention. More info in the pitch = more clarity for me.
Don’t: Fluff it up with adjectives. These are subjective and the “goods” and “amazings” and “awesomes” of the world are opinionated fillers. I want the facts, not the fluffy words you’re supposed to say.
Let me upgrade ya~
