Welcome to Pitch, Please â a sassy Substack newsletter that covers everything publicists want to know about pitching journalists đ
What makes a good PR pitch? More importantly, what makes a bad one? What do journalists look for when reading pitches? And what really rubs writers the wrong way?
Have a question or pitch? Please email sosmanski1210@gmail.com and Iâll *probably* reply.
⨠What new pitches can expect
Pitch, Please is a newsletter written for publicists, by a journalist. Iâm Stephâthe Head Pitch in Charge hereâand Iâve been writing for brands for more than a decade. After going freelance in 2016, I began to think more critically about the pitches I was receiving from publicists, and one night, after drinking one too many glasses of rose, I launched this very Substack.
If youâre new hereâ⨠welcome, youâre officially a pitch! â¨âyou can expect deep-dives into the anatomy of a good PR pitch. At least, from one journalistâs perspective.
Iâll rant about PR strategy, show example pitches that impressed me (and earned placement), and lament about industry stuff that only you and I (and a few other PR girlies at the proverbial water cooler) will understand.
Weâll also talk reality TV, noteworthy reads, pop culture, and all else that invades my brain.
⨠Youâll get all of that, of course, with the signature side of sass that PP has become known for. Although, if you ever meet me in the wild, know that I am less sassy IRL đ
⨠Want to connect IRL? Iâm becoming more of a recluse these days, but you can (sometimes) find me on Instagram. PP also has its own IG and has been known to post the occasional meme from time to time.
You can also đ my past freelance work on Muckrack and my current bylines at Better Homes & Gardens. See ya, pitches âď¸
