Unless I’m mistaken the record is four. These days, four follow-ups doesn’t even feel particularly egregious (although five would), but years ago, I wrote about a very sassy follow-up email that made its way into my inbox. And not the good kind of sassy. It was the person’s fourth reply to their own thread and it was… not nice.
It sucks to be ghosted. I get it—I’ve queried my nonfiction book for several years now with many a non-reply, and I used to date in New York City to boot. I’m no stranger to rejection. It’s the pits.
